“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].”

How can we run when we are holding onto something that weighs us down? We must be aware of what is unnecessary to hold onto. We can’t have unnecessary weight on our backs!

As a hiker I only carry the necessary things like a small bag with water and some granola bars. I also have the right kind of clothes and shoes on.

Prophetic sight:

Water and food= the word of God, Jesus [John 6:35]

clothes and shoes= the armor of God [Ephesians 6:10-18]

As I read in Hebrews I find it says clearly to strip off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us… That gets me thinking about how we live our lives. What can weigh us down? Can it be our mindsets, our schedules, or our relationships. I would say its time to sit down and really ask God what is holding us back? Sin is very weighty!! As the bible says sin can easily entangles us. When you are entangled with something it is very hard to run.

Why does the bible say to run the race?

When we are running our eyes are focused on the finish line “Jesus”. If we was a runner that was so distracted of what is around us we would turn the wrong way, or we would even trip and fall. We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and not carry so much that weighs us down. The word endurance keeps coming up to me in this season. Again the word means the ability and strength to keep pressing forward no matter how we feel! As a runner or hiker we keep pressing on no matter how tired, or sore we get! Same goes with running the good race of faith!

~Yes we need to fix our eyes on Jesus in order to run in the right direction!~

“Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature [pursuing spiritual perfection] should have this attitude. And if in any respect you have a different attitude, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us stay true to what we have already attained.”

“So then, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of [our great] God.”

“But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.”

“Let your eyes look directly ahead [toward the path of moral courage] And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you [toward the path of integrity].”

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
